Chicago's LowDown Brass Band deftly synthesizes the gritty sounds of Chicago with the high energy second-line street beat of the Crescent City. Recently performing with Dan Deacon at Lagunitas Beer Circus following an ambitious project titled LowDown Sounds" that included a critically acclaimed cameo by Roy Ayers on the track "Everybody Loves The Sunshine." LowDown Brass is now set to begin the next chapter with the release of their 5th self-produced full length studio album "LowDown Breaks." Its members have worn many hats throughout their musical careers and this band is the culmination of our collective knowledge and influence. Jazz and R&B, hip-hop and funk stuff, Caribbean and Latin — that's most (of the) Chicago manner we utilize, all these outside styles, bringing them in.
Though recognized for their fluency in Afrobeat and funk music, the band is known to collaborate with diverse groups and artists, from Angélique Kidjo to Jovanotti to Medeski Martin & Wood to Public Enemy, and served as the house band at Carnegie Hall in 2014 (Music of Paul Simon), 2015 (Music of David Byrne & Talking Heads) and this year's 2017 Music of Aretha Franklin.
His diverse influences including Stevie Wonder, John Coltrane, and Pharrell Williams have helped mold a blend of musical styles that comes out one hundred percent unique, fresh, and timeless. In 1977, The Dirty Dozen Social and Pleasure Club in New Orleans began showcasing a traditional Crescent City brass band.
While taking a page from the jazz and blues giants of the past, LDB melds the funky parade sounds of Mardi Gras with pop, funk, soul and reggae into a unique style, often putting an original spin on your all-time favorites. Combining elements of New Orleans Dixieland jazz, funk, ska, Latin music and hip-hop, Lowdown Brass Band has a staggering 11 members, including two drummers, trumpeters, trombonists, a sousaphone player, vocalist and saxophonist.
19. There was most definitely a significant gap of time though, after the Christmas album, for us to get our shit together and release LowDown Sounds. Combining the poetic ferocity of Billa Camp with stellar vocal harmonies, adventurous improvisation, movement, and grooves, LDB creates an infectious and diverse sound that has something for every listener.

Trying to refine the sound through our concepts (Like LowDown Breaks) of writing and producing and perfecting other styles we are not so familiar with like salsa, or learning traditional reggae riddims, and always keeping it a collaborative process within the band's writers and producers to keep that cohesive and diverse sound.
